Why are dark skin types particularly subject to skin spots?
While dark skin types boast higher resistance to sunlight and cutaneous aging than fair skin, pigmentation spots are a major problem. In fact, melanin production is disturbed by all types of inflammations affecting the skin, from a simple blemish to extensive outbreaks ranging from acne to melasma. These disturbances lead to a transient increase in melanin production - referred to as post-inflammatory hyper-pigmentation, - which is not very visible on white skin but highly apparent on dark skin given its propensity to cause unsightly-looking dark spots.
